ISF (Importer Security Filing)
On January 26, 2009, the new rule titled Importer Security Filing and Additional Carrier Requirements (commonly known as “10+2”) went into effect. This rule applies to import cargo arriving to the United States by vessel. Failure to comply with the rule could ultimately result in monetary penalties, more inspections, and delay of cargo. The ISF Team with Cordova Brokerage International, Inc. can provide assistance with this regulation.
This rule requires that all ocean shipments, destined to the United States (even if the final destination is Mexico), file an Importer Security Filing with CBP. This must be filed at least 24 hours before the container is actually loaded onto the ocean vessel. In order to avoid severe penalties, Cordova Brokerage has specific requirements. We ask our clients to send complete and accurate ISF info to Cordova Brokerage at least five days before the scheduled sail date in order to ensure proper and timely filing of the ISF. Please contact our office in advance to ensure you are set up with us to file ISF’s on your behalf.
